The other day, I got to talking to a gentleman who works for a homeowner’s association committee group. He had an interesting job, he went around for the homeowner association’s executive committee and he took pictures of all the homes with a digital camera. He took pictures from all different directions. Then, he gave those digital pictures to the group to look at, to make sure everything was going properly.

This reminded me of an old story about a very large Corporation back in the 80s where the executives sat in a high-rise tower in a major US city, and they ran the command and control of the entire Corporation with all of its offices around the world from that location. They came to work every day, went up into their office, and went home in the evenings. They never went to physically visit the locations of all their business units, retail stores, warehouses, sales departments, or even their manufacturing facilities.

Perhaps this was what the “Dilbert Series” was all about. In the new information age, generally you don’t need to send people out to take pictures or to do videos, as there is so much information technology, that it is almost like being there. Consider if you will Google Earth, closed-circuit TV, enterprise software, and all the rest. There is so much information, that you actually could run your business from an ivory tower. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t recommend that you do that, just as I wouldn’t recommend that any homeowner’s association did.

You see, there is a big difference between going out and talking to homeowners, and just taking pictures of the surrounding facilities. What’s really important is to talk to all the people involved, and take a look for yourself. Too many executives think that they don’t need to visit their operations in China, or walk the factory floors, this is a terrible mistake. The best corporations, their executives are constantly on the go visiting all the locations, and figuring out ways to save money, become more efficient, streamline operations, and keep the customers happy as well.

If you think you can do all that by remote control, you are kidding yourself, and I don’t care what sort of technology you have invested in, or even if you spent tens of millions of dollars developing the ability to do so. It’s not the same as being there, and never will be. There is a big difference between sending robots to Mars to look around, and actually having humans go there and see it for themselves. We just don’t have that level of technology yet, so don’t kid yourself. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Incentive travel is a motivational technique companies use to stimulate their employees to heighten performance. It has been a tool available to businesses for numerous years; however, the popularity of these programs took a significant drop as the public became alerted of inappropriate usage during the early beginnings of the now depleting recession. Organizations feared their reputation would be tarnished by keeping these programs going and began to eliminate them from their inspirational tactics. Motivational travel rewards have experienced an upsurge as the economy makes its way toward recovery. Studies show programs to be most successful when they offer a unique destination and itinerary.

Incentive Travel Programs Have Made Their Way Back Into the Spotlight

Destinations tend to be popular either directly due to the selected location or the ease of planning they provide. For example, local tourist spots such as Orlando and Las Vegas have continued to remain staples in the industry because they offer:

Enjoyable Weather

Easy Travel Setup

A Safe Environment

Close Proximity

Extensive Activity Variety

Simplified Marketing

Value In Regards to Money Spent

While a local destination is easier to plan, it does not stir up the inspiration received from a trip to Fiji or Paris. Longer distance incentive travel programs add an additional element to the reward by offering something many individuals might otherwise never get to see. This is enticing and supplies the push workers need to perform beyond status quo. Planning professionals are a beneficial tool companies can use when desiring to set up long distance getaways. Their assistance can increase the dollar value through gaining better deals, dependable planning, and unique itineraries.

Those companies keeping a program going during the recession changed to destinations within the states in an effort to make the reward more justifiable. They also tightened down the requirements for obtaining these rewards and began to require improved monitoring of all aspects of an incentive travel program. Each trip had to be justified both financially and in regards to non-financial gains. These patterns are expected to continue with the exception of location distance. Now that the economy is on its way back, organizations are seeking enticing destinations like Italy to receive better results from participating employees.

Why does incentive travel work better than any alternative motivational business program choice? An organization offering people something they cannot easily obtain creates the necessary drive to work harder. Anyone can receive a small cash bonus or buy a coffee cup, but countless individuals work hard each day just to get by. When a trip to Ireland or another far off location is offered, they will do everything they can to obtain the reward. A professional service can make certain the itinerary is centered on the objectives, keep pricing within budget, and supply the enticing elements necessary to run an effective program. This inspirational option has now grown in popularity beyond any other type of reward choice. The right professional assistance, developed package, and supportive efforts can make this a lucrative endeavor for not only the winners, but also the company seeking to move ahead of its competition.

Incentive travel programs experienced a scenario much like the Roman Empire as the economy took a turn for the worse. Incentive travel has once again risen as a desired motivational tool.

When we think of a chauffeur service we might ordinarily envision a driver in a smartly pressed uniform and a limousine – a large, important-looking car to drive us to somewhere very important, on a very important day. A short but rapid burst of speed and luxury from one point to another point on a trip that means more to us than most trips ever will, and will certainly remain with us for longer.

Of course, it is all of these things. However it is in fact so much more also. It is, indeed, a bespoke experience completely tailored to your own requirements, with each aspect of the service both designed and performed solely with your expectations in mind.

There is a whole number of reasons why one might choose to use a limousine service, but essentially they boil down either to celebration or to convenience. If one is being driven to a point of destination by a dedicated chauffeur it is typically either a once in a lifetime event, or alternatively it is because there is no easier or less stressful way to travel to a particular port of call.

It is commonplace to organise a limousine for a wedding, a driver who is committed to getting you to the church on time and without forever stealing a glance at his wristwatch in anticipation of his next customer. With so much else on your mind on the day it is so reassuring to know that your chauffeur will remain at your disposal throughout the day, transporting you on to your wedding reception after the service has ended and then off again on the first leg of a honeymoon that you will hopefully remember forever.

On such a once in a lifetime occasion no other mode of wedding transport comes anywhere close.

When convenience is what you are looking for allowing an experienced chauffeur to take on the burden of organising your transport needs is to relieve your own self of the pain of being distracted or disturbed by peripherals when all your attention needs to be upon the task with which you have been entrusted. Using a luxury chauffeur from an experienced and professional chauffeur company takes all the stress out of your business trip and permits you the luxury of being able to concentrate entirely on the real business at hand.

Airport transfers and trips out to business meetings are also occasions when the traveller really does have to be with his or her thoughts, focusing on the events of the day and contemplating what will be occurring during the hours ahead. Travelling and all other peripheral activity needs to be eradicated as a potential source of stress.

Natural disasters, political unrest, acts of terrorism and general failure of supporting infrastructure can force international evacuations and emergency relocations. This article outlines the key logistics advice and tips to ensure an effective evacuatio

Introduction

If you have international operations or business travellers, then you need to read this article. Following years of experience and numerous practical tests, here are the top 10 logistics issues associated with international evacuations that determine the success or failure of any evacuation plan due to international or transnational crisis.

This article will analyze and discuss the logistics considerations in order to assist planners and managers in developing the best possible and adaptive evacuation plans.

By the end of this article, you will immediately be able to add the priority logistics elements into existing plans or commence the process to create your own safety and security evacuation plan.

I have written, reviewed and implemented numerous evacuation plans over the years and have significant experience in what works and what invariably frustrates the evacuation operations unnecessarily.

Through this extensive theoretical and practical experience I will seek to distill the primary stages and priority tactile issues that must be considered or included in any plan to ensure a successful outcome.

Logistics relates to all the resources, cost, support and administration required to come together during an evacuation.

Accommodation

Accommodation requirements fall into three broad categories.

Private accommodation, as usually occupied by the traveller or expat in country.

Evacuation accommodation, such as the pre-identified and planned accommodation to be used in the event of an evacuation that may or may not be part of your existing/routine accommodation plan.

Ad-hoc accommodation, such as taking immediate refuge at a school, shelter, shopping complex or embassy as was necessitated by the sudden onset of events that forced personnel into non-planned accommodation options.

All required, and likely ad-hoc accommodation, needs to be both identified and documented in the plan.

These locations need to be independently documented in the appendices as a lift out guide/review and put into the continually updated evacuation mapping support tools.

Maps

By having each location as a lift out guide, they become more readily accessible in the event of an emergency, easily shared and updated between planners and traveler/expats and they may already be or become part of your routine accommodation plans within the area.

Muster areas, assembly points and channels for movement must be scripted where possible.

Emergency services and support must be evaluated and integrated into the plan.

Identification and mapping of relevant and proximal government and emergency services is required.

Ambulance, police, hospital, government shelters, embassies and the like constitute possible ad-hoc accommodation options, highly dependent on the nature of the threat, access, language and cultural elements.

Transport

Transportation choice for individual and group moves are required.

Private vehicles, buses, protected vehicles, government shuttles, military convoys and other options need to be considered during

the planning phase but also captured in the resources guide.

Redundant options, transfers, escorts, guides, drivers, spare parts, navigation, emergency stores, actions on, supplies, speed, traffic, road condition, luggage and first aid requirements should also be addressed in support of both static and mobile logistic options.

Much like the appropriateness of an evacuation plan, the logistics are dependent on planning and change management.

Providers

Vendors and support resources may appear to be ideal in isolation but fail on the day or time of activation because of poor planning, lack of understanding or over dependence on any one solution.

They may also fail because everyone wants to use them and they lack the surge or scale to accommodate everyone’s demands.

Attempting to put together an alternate or ad-hoc solution in the midst of an emergency situation is always less effective than pre-developed “channels” for choice and activation.

Finances

Payment of services and even retainers are a matter for consideration.

Do you have a direct relationship or payment system in place?

Do you have the correct currency or cash reserves for payment of services?

How do you secure and manage such liquidable assets during unrest or emergency?

Is there likely to be profiteering or acts of piracy to increase prices significantly when demand significantly outstrips supply?

Ensure your financial management and response is measured and controlled but allows for change and circumstances beyond your control.

Financial compensation and insurance must also be addressed.

What are your limits, guidelines, standards and buying options that are pre-defined by your insurance policy or internal policies?

Some of these areas may be confidential (kidnap and ransom) but knowledge and access should be clearly identifiable to those charged with managing and implementing the resulting plan/s.

Location Specific

Resources are likely to be highly customized to each-and-every location.

No two countries, cities, suburbs or circumstances can be replicated nor will the choice of resources be the same either.

Cultural adaptations or simply making do with the best available options may end up being the order of the day.

Do not forget that logistic support and resources are not limited to the location of incident and point of departure but also the point of arrival, transit, diversion and end locations too.

While the plan and focus may be on the narrow concerns on the ground, much consideration and focus is also required for where your going to, where all or some of the evacuees will spend time, any counselling or administration that will need to be conducted before people arrive at the final stage of the evacuation.

Government facilitators, guides, translators, nannies, medical support personnel, specialists and administrators must be inclusive of this stage and clearly identifiable and contactable.

Tools

Tracking formats and criteria such as manifests, evacuee bio data, report lines, contact details, next of kin and other management tools need to be accessible and pre-formatted.

Mode of transport is optional but all points of contact, planning considerations/limitations, contingencies, owners, agents, brokers and captains need to be identified.

Fuel, load capacity, configurations, clearance, crew rest, back up crews, country of origin, civil or military, serviceability, cost, handling, range, weather conditions/limitations, runway/port access and the possibility of every affected individual swarming to your chosen means of evacuation in the absence of an alternate solution need to be considered and detailed as to how they will be managed, utilized or overcome.

Government Assisted Evacuations

Some governments offer support or free evacuation support.

This is highly dependent on high level relationships, events of the day, politics, economic sensitivities, official view of the situation and response/scale capacity of the responding government.

Despite these options or offerings, independent plans should always be in place or accessible should these “free” government options fail, be delayed or present greater threat than your own discreet alternatives.

Having been involved in government evacuation planning and operations I can assure you that they are not the well oiled machines that one might expect and they can/do fail outright.

Additionally, from experience, it may not be your best option to be transported on a military aircraft as you pass through hostile airspace in which ground forces see opportunity to target foreign military aircraft.

If you are to use such resources or end up on such a transport choice you also need to consider your supporting logistics to a location or destination that was never within your planning considerations but now the location in which evacuees disembark and you need to support.

Supporting Agencies

Medical, administration, safety and security all have a role to play but do they mix well or do they have competing agendas?

Beware circumstances which leave you with difficult or avoidable choices where a medical/security imperative splits your evacuee group/s because an insurance policy or support provider recommends to do one thing and your policy dictates another.

Know all the terms and conditions in advance and likely stressors that may occur and be prepared.

Never discount professional advice as all your planning may be for naught if your have made the wrong assumptions, chosen the wrong resources or even plan on heading in the wrong direction/country only to discover on the day that it all has to be abandoned and a new/ad-hoc plan developed on the spot due to such failings.

Formatting

All resources should be added to the appendices in a ready-to-remove and access format.

Elements or the entire section can then be quickly disseminated or updated without the need to read the entire plan from beginning to end.

Logistics forms a vital and major portion of any evacuation plan but it does not dominate the end product that must be both accessible and actionable by decision makers and evacuees alike.

Conclusion

In this article we addressed the key logistics issues associated with international evacuations and transnational crisis.

This article analysed and discussed the logistics considerations in order to assist planners and managers in developing the best possible and adaptive evacuation plans.

You will now be able to add the priority logistics elements into existing plans or commence the process to create your own safety and security evacuation plan.

Humidity monitoring deices have several kind of built in sensors that function variably to detect and monitor the humidity levels at a place. A brief review of all such apparatus has been mentioned here.

Humidity is the amount of water vapors present in the air. There are certain terminologies that are often used to calculate the humidity content in the air.

Absolute humidity. This is the ratio of water to air that is the total amount of water vapors present in the air at given time.

Relative humidity: This is the ratio of total quantity or air that is present in the form of gaseous vapors to the total quantity of moisture that air can absorb into it.

Specific humidity – this is the specific amount of water vapors in specific amount of air.

Humidity is measured in gram per cubic centimeter (g/cm3). On day to day basis we generally talk about relative humidity. Humidity content in atmosphere is measured by the humidity monitor that consists of humidity sensors and humidity controllers. There can be different kind of sensors that can be based on different principles. Here is a brief description of various humidity monitoring devices

Hygrometer/Psychrometer: In this system a pair of similar thermometer is used one of which is kept wet while the other one is kept dry. Difference between their values is recorded. Considering the ambient value of dry one and relative difference in their temperature, the moisture content in the air is calculated.

Bulk Polymer Resistive Sensor: this is an electric humidity sensor using capacitors and resistors. A grid of interlocked electrodes are placed on an insulating substrate a humidity sensitive salt is embedded on polymer resin and a coating of mixture is applied on electrodes. The resin is coated with protective coating that is permeable to water vapors. As water permeates, ionization begins and polymer ions become mobile. The impedance of sensor is measure and percent relative humidity is calculated.

Capacitive Sensor: In this kind of humidity monitoring systems porous electrodes are placed in parallel position on a substrate. The dielectric material in the middle of electrodes absorbs water form the air with changing humidity. The capacitance of sensor changes due to change in humidity. This kind of sensors can be used at high altitudes and is suitable to calculate low humidity values.

Bang-bang controller: This is also known as on-off control that switches between two extreme states, 0 and 1. This is mostly used to control and minimize the hysteresis effect. If the humidity levels are indicated to be above the given level, the switch shifts its state to trigger a cooling device.

Proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID controller): This is a slightly complicated control loop feedback mechanism that requires a real-time system feedback.

Proportional controller: This is a linear feedback apparatus. The quantity of control measure imposed is directly proportional to the amount of error.

Fuzzy logic controller: In this humidity monitor systems the values do not switch between the two limit states abruptly, but it can also range between the two limits.

These sensors help maintain and control humidity levels of storages and electronic equipment rooms where increased humidity can cause hazards.

As an accomplished traveler, I always enjoy talking to others who traveled around the world or throughout our own country, talking to them about the various sights and sounds. The other day I was at Starbucks and I got into a conversation with the lady who actually worked as a travel agent, had been to five continents, and over 50 countries. She had stories about each one, and it was too bad that we had to end our conversation because it was quite intriguing.

I told her that I’d always wanted to go see the Pyramids, but with all the chaos and controversy going on there after the Arab Spring, and now with the Muslim Brotherhood running the country, I don’t think they want it Westerners traipsing around. Well, I’m sure they’re going to want my money, so maybe they do want me to come and visit, and then leave right away. The reality is I don’t feel safe there, and although there are periods of peace now and again in the Middle East, to me that just means they are reloading, and I’d hate to be in the crossfire when things re-erupt.

She agreed, and she said; I guess all see the Pyramids in my next life, because I have no intention on visiting that country right now. Who knows, maybe in a decade everything will have calmed down again?

Yes, she might be right, or she might not be, and remember she said; maybe. Which is about right, we just don’t know. Luckily, there are plenty of digital pictures, Discovery Channel films, Google Earth, and information on the pyramids for a virtual tourist in that case, so there is certainly enough to quench my thirst, and “maybe” until such a future safe day arrives, that for now I should save my money and vote with my dollar and my feet to go visit some other country instead, there are lots of things to see on many other continents.

Tourism was obviously one of Egypt’s largest industries, but now it’s been severely hurt, and some wonder if it will ever recover. It probably will at some point however it might take quite a while, and that certainly won’t help the economy much there. Indeed it appears that all of the political and civil unrest still has some dust flying around, and things haven’t exactly settled down as of yet. Let’s hope Egypt gets its act together and goes on to build other great things in the future, starting with re-building their economy. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

International Freight Shipping is services used by companies to export or import of products internationally which requires an extra care and scrutiny as compared to the products or goods transferred interstate or intrastate. It requires a bit more planning that your parcel will be delivered safely and on time at the required destination. They have professionals that will take care of your parcel being delivered safely and on time. They take care of the route the parcel goes, the customs the parcel need to pass, keeping the user away from all the worries.

International Freight Shipping companies have services called as “freight forwarding” which act as an intermediary between the client and transportation services. The freight forwarder or the agent will not move itself instead it will contract with the carrier to facilitate the movement of goods so it basically acts an agent who can move the cargo from dock-to-door. As in transportation of goods internationally involves many carriers and formalities so all these tasks are handled by the freight carrier. The tasks include miscellaneous costs like consular cost, insurance costs, documentation cost, port charges, also various documents export documents, making necessary custom documents etc. So all these tedious tasks are made simpler by the freight forwarder.

While shipping your parcel internationally there are many rules and regulation to be followed, this varies differently from one country to another. It can be different from the origin to the source destination for example a law on the value of the parcel that is being sent can be different. In most of the cases the freight forwarder will help you to abide by these rules and regulation. This is the precise reason for the evolution of the International freight companies in recent times.

A license is required for International Freight Shipping which is issued by the International Freight Transport Association (IFTA) for air transport and the Federal Maritime Commission for ocean shipping.

There are few important documents that one should keep note of while using International Freight shipping. They are as follows:

a) Commercial Invoice: It’s a document that lists all the items you are sending, it can be one or many.It also includes the price of the items being shipped next to the name of the item. One should take care of listing all the items along with its price correctly. There can be certain customs on very high valued products, but these custom duties vary differently as per the rules of the country or region.

b) Certificate of Origin: This document states that from where you parcel actually came i.e. the origin of the parcel. This is very much important to get all the items customs cleared. As the customs agency verifies that your parcel originally came from here.

Several countries also use the Shipper export declaration document, for example it’s mandatory in the US. This document is for a single product whose value is more than $2500, but not for several items summing for $2500.

A good International freight shipping company makes the user aware of the rules and regulation and also gives timely status updates of the current position of the parcel through messages or mails. They also give insurance for any kind of damage or loss to the parcel. So it’s important to choose a service that you can trust and that will take care of your goods.

Gone are the days when you could show up at any hotel and ask for a room without any prior notice. Today, most hotels require visitors to make bookings or reservations before they show up. Advanced bookings are an advantage for both the hotel and the visitor. The hotel is able to plan for the guests when they are expected. The visitors, on the other hand, have the peace of mind of knowing that they have guaranteed accommodation whatever time they turn up.

The best way to get cheap accommodation is by booking online. Many online sites offer discount deals for those making reservations. The sites will save you time and effort, and you get much lower rates than you would get by booking directly from the hotel. There are many discounted rates for hotels around the world. The savvy traveler knows how to travel to different locations at a discount, and will even get deals for other services like meals and entertainment.

If you are planning a holiday, there are many things you can do to ensure that you save money on your trip. The first and most important step is to research the location on the Internet. Most people are surprised to discover the options that are available online. For every single location, numerous hotels charge different prices. You can visit a certain location and end up spending less than half of what someone else in the same place is paying.

Research is very important as it helps you to find out everything that is on offer. The time or season, when you choose to travel will make a big difference in what you spend. If you travel during the off-peak season, you can take advantage of numerous price discounts. When hotels are fully booked, they can afford to dictate their terms. On the other hand, if the hotel is less than half-full, they are happy for any business and will be more accommodating in their prices.

When you make advanced bookings, you are essentially assuring the hotel that you will be visiting. This will help them to prepare for your arrival and you can expect to get great service. Many people do not like to feel ambushed and turning up somewhere without a booking makes people feel unprepared. If you turn up for a hair cut without booking an appointment, you should not be surprised if you are the last person to get service.

Those who make early bookings often have the advantage of choosing the best service. You can get the best room or seat, because you have a choice. Those who come at the last minute will have to settle for what is available and in most cases, it is never the best. While the rooms in the hotel may be the same size, the location will make a big difference. There are those rooms that have a better view than others do, and they often go to those who book early.

Making an early booking to a spa can ensure that you can get a slot on your preferred day and time for your spa treatments. Find out more here!
